Dead Man Watching Return to the Studio After 13-Year Hiatus

After more than a decade of silence, the acclaimed alternative folk band Dead Man Watching have officially returned to the studio, marking their first recording sessions since the release of their 2013 album “Love, Come On!”. The unexpected reunion comes after years of speculation—and near certainty among fans—that the band would never work together again.

The silence that followed their last release was not without reason. In a widely noted interview at the time, lead singer John Mario described multi-instrumentalist and producer Gio as “a dictator,” a remark that came to define the band’s abrupt and enduring separation.

Formed in 2006, Dead Man Watching built a devoted following with their poetic lyricism, atmospheric sound, and emotionally charged live performances. Their final album, “Love, Come On!”, was widely regarded as a fitting closing chapter, leading many to believe the band had quietly disbanded for good.

In the years that followed, the members pursued solo projects and remained largely silent on the possibility of a reunion. Occasional interviews only deepened the mystery, with vague comments and conflicting statements fueling rumors but offering no confirmation—until now.

Sources close to the band have confirmed that all original members—John Mario, Gio, and Astor Cazzolla—are working on new material. While details about the project remain tightly under wraps, early reports suggest a sound that both honors their roots and explores new creative directions.

This development follows the recent re-release of the band’s debut, eponymous EP by Music from Alpha, which will also reissue their full catalog in the coming months—and, possibly, a new original release.

“They never said it was over forever,” said Mick Paletta, president of Music from Alpha. “It just took time—and finding the right reason to come back.”

Though no official release date has been announced, Mick has hinted that more news will follow in the coming months. In the meantime, a first glimpse has surfaced: a series of photographs capturing John Mario at work in Gio’s studio, taken by Music from Alpha’s official photographer, Ritchie Pastichy.
