ENTER DREAMLAND
Weird drum machines, ethereal pads, dub bass, overdriven guitars, and vintage keyboards sit alongside soft, echo-drenched vocals and fingerpicked acoustic guitar; a texture that is at once warm and glacial, human and artificial.
Music from Alpha is immensely proud to announce the definitive reissue of Dreamland, the second full-length album by El Matador Alegre (the solo musical persona of visual artist and bassist Giuseppe Vallenari). Originally released in a micro-run on March 31, 2017, this elusive classic has been remastered and is now being pressed on vinyl for the very first time.
“Is there a Dreamland or just a secret place, is it our curse to fade without a trace?”
The nine songs offer no answer to the question they pose. Instead, they leave us alone with the question, searching for a meaning that was lost along with all the colors…
One minute into the opening track, “Venus and Mars,” it becomes clear that Dreamland exists somewhere else entirely: a tenderness and melancholy that feel otherworldly yet somehow close to home at the same time. Perhaps that was always the point: an escape from the grayness of things, to a place where colors must still exist, however faded.
